FAQs

Q?

Is orthokeratology (Ortho-K) Contact Lenses permanent?

A.

No, it’s temporary. If you stop wearing the lenses regularly while you sleep, your vision will return to its original state in as little as 72 hours.

Q?

How long does it take for vision correction?

A.

Most patients have accelerated improvement in the first few days of treatment and achieve nearly their optimum vision in 10 to 14 days.

Q?

Are there any risks involved with wearing Ortho-K Contact Lenses?

A.

When any contact lens is worn, there is a small risk involved. However, it is not expected that our Ortho-K Contact Lenses will provide a risk that is greater than other contact lenses that are worn while sleeping.  The risk can be avoided with proper hygiene and lens care.  The effects of the Ortho-K lenses are completely reversible.

Q?

Is Ortho-K Contact Lenses painful?

A.

No, it is not painful. Initially, you may have a slight awareness of the Ortho-K Contact Lens in your eye. You will not feel the lenses when you sleep and there is no sense of physical corneal change – just visual improvement when the lenses are removed. In the FDA study, 96% found the comfort level acceptable.

Q?

Are there age restictions for orthokeratology with our Ortho-K Contact Lenses?

A.

No, the FDA placed no age restrictions on candidates for orthokeratology with our Ortho-K Contact Lenses. It’s a great option for children and teens that are involved in sports or other extra-curricular activities. Adults also enjoy the freedom and even those that may be presbyopic (requiring reading glasses or bifocals), may still be great candidates with monovision design with our ortho-K cotnact lens.

Q?

I used to wear daytime lenses, but stopped due to discomfort. Am I a candidate for Ortho-K Contact Lenses?

Our Ortho-K Contact Lenses are worn at night while you are sleeping. This eliminates any discomfort normally experienced while wearing contact lenses during the day. Our eye doctor can determine if you are a candidate for Ortho-K contact lens.

A.

Our Ortho-K Contact Lenses are designed to correct myopia with up to 3.00 diopters of astigmatism. Our eye doctor can determine if you are a candidate for Ortho-K.
